The young adult ministry at Sandia Pres creates connections
that allow us to experience God and to invite others into that experience, too.
This ministry and community provides young adults the chance to pursue God in the company of friends

Who are young adults?
Young adults are those of us in that early-adult stage of establishing lives of independence
(post-college, not under parents’ roof anymore, single, marriage, divorced, etc.).
We’re in our 20s and 30s and are all navigating one set of adult transitions or another
(career changes, moves, early parenting, etc.).

If this description strikes a chord with you in some way, come join us!

Ongoing Fellowship Opportunities

Sunday Morning Class
YA Sunday School, 9:45 a.m. in Room 221 ("The Study"): Has Christianity Failed You?... And What Does That Say About Jesus? If Christianity or church has ever hurt you or left a bad taste – no matter how big or small – in your mouth, then join a discussion for both the heart and the mind! How does the institution that we see and experience measure up against Jesus and what He had in mind? Please see the flier under "More Information."

Another Sunday class option for young parents, 9:45am in Room 218: Parenting. So many parents wonder, "Do I have what it takes...? Come learn ten Biblical traits your kids will remember you for. Video/discussion series by the engaging Drs. Les and Leslie Parrott.

And regardless of the class topic, Sunday school has been a great place to connect and meet new young adults, so come join us!

Building Friendship -- Small Groups
I don't know about you, but my schedule is pretty full. Pretty specific. Pretty hard to change. Yet I'm always eager for time with friends. At Sandia Pres, "covenant" small groups are groups of friends that meet regularly, basically for deepening friendships and learning more about God together. I (Matt) can help you get one started very easily, so if you crave this kind of consistent friendship, contact Matt!

Service Opportunities

Dinner for a UNM Christian College Group
Do you love to cook? Some hungry students could really use your help: Presbyterian Student Fellowship (PSF) is a college group at UNM that meets weekly for Bible study and the kind of friendship that so many students need on a disparate commuter campus like UNM. SPC supports them by cooking and delivering dinner one Tuesday per month. Would you be interested in cooking or bringing something simple (pizza, burritos, etc.) as a gift to them? Pick a Tuesday: 7/20, 8/17, 9/21, and let David Casson know.

Meals for New Parents
Interested in making a meal for new parents? What a practical and simple gift that is so helpful! Basic recipes available to make it even easier. Let Matt know if you are interested.

What Are “Second Fridays” and “Second Sundays”?
For something fun to do with Y.A., it’s super easy to remember this fall: Every 2nd Friday and 2nd Sunday, there’s something going on!

Every second Sunday of each month, young parents and their kids are invited to bring a picnic lunch to Rotary Park (SE of Paseo & Wyoming on Quintana) for fun, games, and connecting with other young families! September 12, October 10, November 14.

Every second Friday of each month (September, Ocobert, November), there’s a fun social event for young adults… just the adults!

  • September 10: Sunset Hike - Bring a “picnic” dinner to Elena Gallegos at 6:30 for a short hike followed by dinner together as we watch the sunset!
  • October 8: Balloon Fiesta - This is the end of Balloon Fiesta week, so why do anything else?? We’ll meet up for the 5:45 Glodeo and 8:00 fireworks!
  • November 12:  Potluck Dinner – Chip in your favorite dish for a 6:30 dinner together. (House/location TBA)

Please check out the fall calendar under "More Information" on this page--lots of new opportunities coming up!

A Good Read
Everywhere we look, we have questions and curiosities about the biggest questions of life. Matt's office is FULL of books that might intrigue you. Consider this your invitation to come raid Matt's “library” anytime you want a good read!

Finding Other YAs on Sunday Morning
Ever walk into church on Sunday AM and wonder where all the young adults are? Or maybe you don’t attend services at all… Well, would it help to know that you can find us YAs in the same place every week?

Diana and Matt typically attend the 10:45 service and often sit with other YA friends. If you would enjoy worship more by sitting with peers and friends, here’s where they’ll be at 10:45 every week: when you enter the sanctuary, they’ll be in the far back-right wing.

(NOTE: The purpose of this is NOT to form a clique, but simply to provide a visible, consistent connection point with YAs at Sunday morning worship.)
