Help Wanted

Help Wanted

Interfaith Hospitality—We will host families the week of August 15-22. As usual, we need help with food preparation, driving the van, hosting in the evening, and everyone’s favorite, staying overnight. We do need your help and appreciate all the help you have given us in the past. Please sign up in Fellowship Hall on August 1 and 8. Any questions, please contact Linda Browning at 856-1831.

School Clothing Drive—On August 15 we will begin our school clothing drive for children and youths from preschool through high school. New or gently used, currently fashionable clothing and uniform items are needed, along with new socks, underwear, and shoes. School supplies are also accepted. Please bring donations to Fellowship Hall and the FLC lobby only during August 15-22.

SPC’S Food Pantry—Please bring nonperishable food to the collection boxes in Fellowship Hall and the FLC lobby. We give to three different food projects, one each week, so we need new supplies weekly:  hearty soups, rice, beans, powdered milk, canned fruit/vegetables/ meat, peanut butter, jam/jelly, un-sugared cereal, baby food/formula/cereal, pasta, chili, stew, juice, oatmeal, crackers, breakfast/granola bars, various tomato products/sauces.

APH Garage Sale—A Peaceful Habitation Home & Aftercare Ministry (one of SPC's supported missions) will have its annual garage sale on Saturday, August 21, 8:00 a.m., at 12208 Apache NE (off Menaul & Chelwood Park NE). Donated items will be gratefully accepted through August 16. Come and shop, and support a wonderful ministry in the process! (Please see "More Information" on this page for more details.)

Dance It Up! Donations—We are looking for ongoing donations for our outreach ministry, Dance It Up. A collection box is in Fellowship Hall under the Sign-Up Table. Needed: chips (potato, Cheetos, tortilla chips, snack mix); cans of smoked Vienna sausages; sugar-free chocolate & vanilla pudding cups; sugar-free “Clear American” sodas (usually found at Walmart); Gatorade (orange, lemon/lime, light purple, blue); plastic round tablecloths in pastel colors. NO perishable food, please.

Parish Nurses—The Parish Nurse Ministry helps Sandia's members with their healthcare needs by assessing their situations, guiding them to resources as appropriate, and educating them about their health. Fourteen Registered Nurses from our congregation help with blood pressure screenings once a month, as well as providing hospital visits, phone visits, and home visits for our members. If you would like to refer one of our congregation members to the Parish Nurses or are interested in helping with this ministry, please call Betsy Everett, 828-0674.

Travel with a Purpose—Are you ready for a trip to make a difference? Living Water Int’l. will train you in well drilling, pump repair, and hygiene while on a trip to Central America. For more information please call Jean Peet, 797-3965.

Prayer Shawls—We have people who knit and crochet prayer shawls for those needing God’s comfort and support during difficult times. Contact Karen McCullough, 821-8511 or kgmccullough[at]comcast[dot]net, for information on how to become involved, or if you know someone who could benefit from a shawl. This ministry also needs monetary contributions to buy supplies. One group meets on the first Wednesday each month in the church prayer room at 9:30 a.m., and another group meets on the first Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. No experience is needed—instruction and assistance are available. The Wednesday morning group is taking a summer break until September. The Monday night group will meet again on August 2 at 6:30 p.m. (note different time) at Shirley Kendall's house.

Volunteer Information—Want to make a difference? Check out the Volunteer Book under the Missions bulletin board in Fellowship Hall.

Alpha Chile Care—Love Kids? SPC's Alpha course (Tuesdays, 8/24-11/16) is a blessing to all adults, including parents with young kids. We're looking for someone with a heart to love those kids every Tuesday night, 6:15-8:15 p.m. Is that you? Contact Matt at 856-5040 x122 or mattp@sandiapres.org. Compensation negotiable.

20/20 Club Drivers—Volunteers needed to drive low-vision people to monthly meetings. Membership is growing, and callers have been turned away. Meetings are usually at SPC at 2:00 p.m. on the 2nd Wednesday, Sept.-June. If you can help, call Larry Thompson at 294-1850 or Virginia Campbell at 281-9399. The group is on summer break, but they would love to line up more drivers for fall.

Gifts of Hope—Gifts of Hope is an Albuquerque program that allows you to make a donation to over 28 of your favorite ministries in the name of a loved one any time of the year. Every cent of your donation goes to the designated charity. If you are deciding on a gift for a co-worker, teacher, parents, friends, etc., who don't need any more "things," consider a donation to one of the Gifts of Hope agencies in that person's name. It is a unique and thoughtful way to remember someone. All agencies have been suggested by participating churches. Please see "More Information" on this page for the catalogue.

Welcome Center—We are always looking for friendly, outgoing people to assist our guests on Sunday mornings. The most-needed time slots are 10:20-10:40 a.m. and 11:45 a.m.-noon (before and after the late service). Please contact Karen Chalmers, 856-5040 x116, if you are interested and to arrange training.

Second-Floor Host—Help newcomers find their way on Sunday mornings. We need friendly people to spend 20 minutes (9:20-9:40) as 2nd-floor hosts. Sign up for a month or a single Sunday. Please contact Satyra Brown, 856-0841.

Homebound—Volunteers are needed to visit church members who are homebound. If you have a heart for helping in this way, please call the church office, 856-5040.

Transportation—If you can occasionally drive church members to church or appointments, please call Mary Bejcek, 821-7446.

Used Inkjet Printer Cartridges—Bring empty inkjet printer cartridges to the box at the Missions table in Fellowship Hall (no laser cartridges!). Proceeds go to ABQ Partners for Safe Water. Further information may be found at http://www.empties4cash.com/02cartridges03list.htm.

Campbell's Labels for Menaul School—Menaul School collects Campbell's soup (and other products such as Swanson's, Franco American, Prego, V-8) labels as well as Box Tops for Education. Please put labels in the collection jar on the Missions Table in Fellowship Hall. Please note that label requirements have changed--instead of the label front, Campbell's now only honors the UPC code and the little Campbell's logo next to it. For detailed explanations please use the link on this page under "More Information."
