Hands On Albuquerque! (HOA!) Volunteer Program. The City of Albuquerque's Dept. of Senior Affairs runs HOA!, an organization of 150 volunteers serving people over the age of 60 throughout Albuquerque and Bernalillo County. HOA! is unique in that volunteers may be of any age, and they, themselves, may receive services from other members. Volunteers generally work one-on-one with frail elderly, allowing them to remain in their homes and communities instead of being institutionalized. Services generally fall into four categories: transportation, household management, nutrition, and socialization. HOA! benefits include:
- Supplemental accident and liability coverage while on duty
- Mileage and meal reimbursement (where applicable)
- Volunteers set their own schedules and activities
- Volunteers work within their own geographic area
- Volunteers develop friendships with their clients
- Annual recognition even, newsletter, and special mailings.
