Music plays an important role in all worship services. A variety of hymns, from classical to contemporary, accommodates the wide range of musical tastes in the congregation during the more traditional services, while praise bands lead the congregation during the contemporary services. The chancel choir sings at both of the other Sunday services.
Soloists and small vocal groups perform regularly at both services, as do a brass quintet and other small instrumental groups. The bell choir plays frequently, and the children’s choir and children from the weekday preschool periodically sing in church. The youth provide all music on Youth Sunday, as well as performing as individuals or groups at other services.
The bell choir rehearses on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. in the sanctuary during the school year, followed by chancel choir rehearsal at 7:30 p.m. The praise band rehearses Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. in the Family Life Center. Sandia members put on an annual Broadway revue and dinner in April each year, with plenty of opportunities for singing, dancing, and backstage work.
