Our Mission

Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

(Matthew 28:19)

Following Jesus, Sharing God’s Love, and Changing Lives

Who We Are

Sandia Presbyterian Church (SPC) in Albuquerque, New Mexico is a relatively young church. The church was chartered (making it official) on October 28, 1990. Rev. Dewey Johnson was the organizing pastor, and he remained with Sandia Presbyterian Church until October 2009. Groundbreaking for the existing sanctuary took place on May 31, 1992. The next year, 296 people left Dennis Chavez elementary school (the temporary home of SPC) and began worshipping in the current building.  Sandia grew quickly and was at one time the fastest growing church in the Presbyterian Church (USA) denomination. To accommodate our growing congregation, we have made significant additions to our facility over the years. In April of 2012, Rev. Dr. Doug Hucke became the Senior Pastor.

God is changing lives through our congregation at Sandia Presbyterian Church. We take Christ’s call seriously, “…to tell the good news of salvation by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ as the only Savior and Lord.” We work to be a welcoming family of Christ, embracing all of God’s people, and reaching out to the community through the sharing of our time, talents, and resources. We are an energetic community of do-ers who truly enjoy working together to share the Good News of God’s grace with our neighbors.

What we believe about...

God

We worship and serve the one eternal, holy, triune God who rules over all and has revealed himself in three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Jesus

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is the Son of God and is fully God and fully human. Jesus Christ most clearly revealed God’s love and grace to us when he died on the cross to offer himself as the perfect and sufficient sacrifice for our sins. The Good News is that Jesus Christ is risen, and we are forgiven and reconciled to God through him. We are saved in and through Christ alone.

The Bible

We believe that the Bible is God's unique and authoritative self-revelation and is the written Word of God. We submit to the teaching of the Bible as our only infallible rule of faith and practice.

Church

The church is the covenant people called by God in God's grace. The church bears witness to the Kingdom of God in the world by proclaiming the gospel, nurturing Christ followers into maturity in Christ, worshipping God, guarding the truth of Jesus Christ, promoting peace, justice, and reconciliation, and demonstrating God's love in family, neighborhood, school, work, and civic life.

Baptism

Baptism in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit represents our cleansing from sin and our union with Christ in his death and resurrection. Baptism is the biblically required sign of entrance into the Christian community. We baptize children, youth, and adults.

Communion

Communion, or The Lord's Supper, is a sacred meal of bread and cup that was first shared by Jesus with his disciples the night before he died. It has been celebrated by Christ’s followers ever since (1 Corinthians 11:24-27). We believe that Jesus is invisibly present and powerfully active during Communion as the host of the meal. All who trust Jesus as their Lord and Savior are welcome at our Communion table. If you have children in worship with you, their participation is at your discretion. We offer Communion on the first Sunday of the month.
