Series: The Supporting Cast of Christmas

Herod the Great

December 23, 2012 | Dr. Doug Hucke
Passage: Matthew 2:1-6

Horrific events are not new to our times. Herod the Great did both great deeds and incredible evil, largely motivated by envy, which Tony Campolo defines as different from jealousy, in that the envious one does not merely want something like what another has, but wants to be the sole possessor. The Messiah was competition he could not bear.
