Passage: Colossians 1:15-20
Jesus did not come to help us escape the world, but to join us in world, saving and redeeming all things. Paul is fighting Gnosticism by saying Jesus is Lord of all, both material and spiritual things, now and always. Life is messy now, but ultimately the future is brighter --created, sustained, redeemed.
Series Information
Jesus is Lord of all things, not just some things. Remembering this can help us keep life's struggles in perspective. As Dutch theologian Abraham Kyper put it, "There is not one inch of the world that Christ does not claim, saying, 'That is mine.'"
