Passage: Revelation 21:1-4
There is a longing in the human heart that cannot be satisfied with wealth or toys. Our purpose is to exhibit to the world what life is like if we truly live as though heaven is real, showing that it does make a difference. It is easy to get caught up in the struggle, chaos, and unsatisfied longing of life. But if we believe there is more, it affects how we experience this life, freeing us up to live less cautious lives. The gift of the church is this alternative vision that says there is more to life than this life, that in the end the mourning and the crying and the tears will pass away. If you know how your story will end in Christ, it changes your perspective on the current chapter, and your life will demonstrate the difference to the world.

In 1910 the Presbyterian Church adopted six purposes called "The Great Ends [Purposes] of the Church." For six weeks we will look at these purposes, which continue to spell out what we should be doing as a church:
- the proclamation of the gospel for the salvation of humankind;
- the shelter, nurture, and spiritual fellowship of the children of God;
- the maintenance of divine worship;
- the preservation of the truth;
- the promotion of social righteousness;
- the exhibition of the Kingdom of Heaven to the world.
